Shift Assignment

Summary

Shift assignment connects an employee to a shift over an inclusive effective period.

Audience

HR and attendance administrators, managers, analysts, product owners, and QA engineers.

Confirmed behavior

Assignments have an effective-from date, an optional effective-to date, and an active state. Open-ended assignments are supported. New assignments are prevented from overlapping an active assignment for the same employee. For a date, the latest effective active assignment is resolved and its active shift supplies calculation context.

Assignment changes are effective by date, so historical dates resolve against the assignment covering those dates. A named default shift, recurring roster, rotating pattern, schedule publication, and automatic reassignment are Not implemented or Requires confirmation. Deactivation and history-retention governance beyond effective-dated records requires confirmation.
